I have been so busy since returning home on September 15th. I can't believe how things have worked out and all I can say it that I am truly blessed.

I had a great time in Europe after the games and ended the season in Stuttgart, Germany at the World Athletic Final. I ended up placing 6th in the 400 meters and whewwww my last meet of the season was finally over. I was so excited to be going home even though I had met so many athletes and made good friends. I actually counted the days down until I was on the last day and knew that there would be a great plane ride home in store for me.

As I arrived in Cincinnati and walked off the plane, it felt good to be home!! I quickly went to collect my bags, and as I was walked to baggage claim I was quite surprised to see so many people greeting my safe return home. My mom, husband, and host of friends and church members. It was great to hear them all shouting my name and holding up the USA Flag. I actually got emotional because at that point it hit me again that I was now an Olympic Gold Medalist. I had defeated the odds and made history along with my four other teammates!!!

Now that I was back in the 5-1-3, as David Payne would say, my journey was over and what more than to decide to train hard and compete for the next 4 years. I now have learned what it takes to be an Olympian and now I want to improve on that. I would like to get an individual medal and definitely go under 50 seconds. I am ready for the hard work and numerous sacrifices. One thing I know for sure is that Cincinnati will be my number one fan through the whole journey again.

Chris's View of China and His Experience....

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SLW1OqwdQpI/AAAAAAAAACk/6prNVqEo4JY/s200/IMG_3967.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239293005115769490" />
Hello,

I wanted to include some of Chris's journal that he kept while in China. I have atached some of his writings, hope you enjoy it.

August  6th 2008
Mary caught the shuttle over from the Olympic Village and we met on the track at BNU at 9:30am. It was great to finally see each other on the opposite side of the world. The workout was 4 x 150’s (yesterday she ran 5 x 100 on 1 min rest as a workout just to get her going). The first one she obviously, but smartly held back clocking an 17.9 with an 11.6 flying 100. She warmed up more on the 2nd, 17.3 (11.0) and was rolling on the next 2, both in 17.0 (10.9 flying 100). They were done on about 10 min rest and were very good, in fact she has never run faster. Her right knee and quad were bothering her a little so she got a rub down and iced afterward. The smog and air quality don’t appear to affect her running. You can’t feel it at all during the run, but afterward it is tougher to catch your breath. We then had lunch in the BNU cafeteria (the food is really pretty good and fellow Bearcat alumn David Payne joined us) and then played Mario on the Nintendo DS that Mary bought at a vending machine in San Francisco and then we took a nap. When we woke up we decided to head over to the practice gym to see what was going on. The only thing interesting that we could find was the boxing team practicing. They were working out in sweats with plastic shirts on underneath trying to cut weight. These guys were quick, and little. Rau’shee Warren, also from Cincinnati was training and will box in the 130 pound weight class, so Mary outweighs him by 8 pounds. We even saw a guy training who will box in the 106 pound and under weight class (I still wouldn’t want to box him). I think they told us the heaviest weight class at the Olympics is 201 pounds and under. We took a walk over to the track and saw Tyson Gay working out. We saw him do his last 120m and he ran it in 11.69. Not too bad, so it looks like his hammy that he pulled in the 200 at the Oly Trials is doing okay. We headed back to the dorms for dinner and then Mary caught her shuttle back to the Olympic Village.

August 7th 2008
Mary had a day off (she just did a little jog and stretch out) so I caught the shuttle over to the Olympic Village to check things out. Michael Phelps actually got on and sat across from me. I am guessing whoever is reading this will know who he is considering he won 5 swimming medals in 04 in Greece and is going after 8 golds this year. I got a picture to prove it also. It was pretty amazing that this area, which was probably about the size of UC’s campus, was created just to house the athlete’s for this one sporting event. It was said that the Chinese government had to displace 3 million people out of their homes for the Olympic facilities. So I checked out her dorm room and we ate in the cafeteria which sat well over a couple thousand people from all countries. We actually ran into Dayron Robles from Cuba, the 110 meter hurdles world record holder (12.88 I think) and Mary got a picture with him. They actually know each other from the European meets. After lunch, we caught a taxi over to the “Silk Market”. It was a bunch of congested shops, selling imitation goods for pretty cheap. I didn’t find anything that struck my fancy and neither did Mary. We then caught a taxi back to the Oly village and Mary was dropped off. I went walking up the street just to see what I could see. By the way, the sun isn’t something that I’ve seen yet. There is a fairly dense haze restricting the view, but I think that it has more to do with the weather conditions than the pollution which has been the talk of the media. It is so incredibly humid it almost feels like it is a rain forest type haze rather than smog. Anyway I then caught a taxi back to BNU for the night. Taxis are incredibly cheap. When we went to the silk market it was about a 30-45 minute drive and it cost about 8 bucks. Considering gas is $4/gallon right now in the U.S. how the heck are they making any money. When I got the taxi back to BNU (10-15min) it was less than $3.00. Maybe taxis are a public service, because I can’t figure out how it could be worth anyones time. The exchange rate by the way is $1.00 = 6.7 Yuan. Also the most popular powerade flavor is lemon grapefruit.

August 21st
Mary just wanted to hang out in the Village today and I had already used up my guest passes so I went to meet up with Uncle Scott. We took the Subway to a shopping center and Olympic Store. I have forgotten to mention how helpful the volunteers have been. Everywhere, there are volunteers dressed in blue in white shirts, and they speak decent English. They are on the streets, in the malls, at the sporting venues, in the hotel lobbies. I was so impressed with how helpful and how many of them there are. I figured they had to have an amazing number of volunteers so I asked one the other day. I first asked how much do you get paid to help out? And he said, “ no, no, I am a volunteer.” I then asked, do you know how many of you there are? The answer, one hundred thousand, yes 100,000. To think that we have a hard time getting our alumni to work our track meets and they have 100,000 volunteers for the Olympics, and remember they speak a decent amount of English. To me it spoke to the tremendous amount of pride they have for their country and their desire to help China run a great Olympic Games that the world will be impressed by. It seems so contrary to the things we hear about the suppressive communist government, the censorship, and unfair justice system. We have a hard time just getting people to vote. The people here seem very happy and things are not what I expected. From what I have seen people have freedom in religion, and where they live, and the jobs they work. The skies have been clear for the last week and I feel very safe walking around. They do drive crazy here though! It makes New York look calm compared to this chaos. Anyway, I finally got the word from Mary that she would be leading off the relay on both days for the prelim tomorrow and the final the next day. I made it back to BNU to watch the meet. It was such an up and down day. First the USA swept the men’s 400m dash with Merritt, Wariner, and Neville, but then both the men’s and the women’s 4x100 relay teams dropped the baton in the prelims failing to advance to the final. Next, David Payne, friend and former teammate at UC came up big in the 110m hurdle final. He captured the silver medal winning UC’s first ever Olympic Medal in track and field. Hopefully Mary will be the 2nd.

Beijing, China.....It's really over

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SLViYF14mSI/AAAAAAAAACU/ZW1OXaiXl6A/s200/IMG_4525.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239201907540007202" />
It's that time,

I hate to have to say bye to China and all the volunteers who helped out and made the Olympics a success. It was great, the weather stayed nice and the pollution was not at all a problem. Beijing was a very beautiful city to visit and I will admit I enjoyed taking photos with the locals. They enjoyed encountering the Americans and when they took a photo I noticed they would always put up the peace sign. That was something I had not seen in a while. But I wish you all were able to be there.

After the relay we had so many reporters to talk with. It was amazing how we all still held up after just running. Ha so many reporters complemented us on the fact that we didn't even look like we had run because our hair was in place and we had on make up. Our little secret...prior to the awards cermony we are able to change our clothes to the medal stand gear and fix ourselves up. We ended the night going to talk with NBC and we did our interview rooftop with the Bird's Nest behind us. It was definitely a pretty sight.

The next day I went to visit Chris at BNU where he was staying. He had this weird look and I asked him what was wrong. His response was that he was sad.....sad because the Olympics were over. I was shocked at first but then it hit me too, everyone in the building was packing up. The dining hall was serving the last meal of the day and had a lot of things packed and ready to go. Track and Field was the event to end out the Olympics and now what we worked hard for was OVER. Only the memories shall live on! What would we do now? What would we work toward. Our biggest event of the year and what everyone talked about...was done. Chris and I walked to his room and I helped him pack his bag. We looked at each other and both said, "Job well done", and walked into the elevator.

The Olympics come once every four years, but will be present in my life everyday because of my medal. Please pass along my story to anyone who doubts that they can make it in life, get to their dream or look toward the future. Because remember if I had given up....this would not have happened for me. Strive for your dreams and you will reach your goal.

4x400 METER RELAY GOLD.....WE DID IT!!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SLU6aS_e6QI/AAAAAAAAACM/nxrM6lktGQ4/s200/slideshow_682262_sns082408wineberg11.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239157964964555010" />
Hello everyone,

Yes it happened Team USA took home first a gold medal in the women's 4x4 and then also gold in the men's 4x4 relay. It was a pleasure to see the USA Team end on such a good note. After some earlier disappointments on the track, we had been put down by the media stating that we weren't having a good Olympics. But in reality we were having an awesome Olympic Games with the women's side taking home the most medals since 1996. Who would have thought that was the case!

My experience here has definitely been the highlight of my life. I accomplished my dream of prticipating in the Olympics and bringing home a medal. I totally enjoyed the nervous feelings and runner's high that one would get and I know that I will continue to train for the next 4 years for 2012. I guess once your in one olympics it gets addicting and pushes you to want to do more.

That night as we all prepared to walk out to the track we knew that we had a game plan, we weren't going home empty handed. We were on the same team, and we would come together to make the USA proud. The previous night for the 4x400 relay prelim we were going to run myself to Natasha to Monique to DeeDee, but 10 minutes before we realized that DeeDee couldn't go. That is why you always want to have your whole team including alternates warm up and be ready to go. The coaches let us know the new order Mary, Monique, Natasha and Sanya. We were all sad that former Olympian DeeDee was unable to run due to her existing knee problem, but we still had her support and prayed as the team headed out. We ran the prelim and set up the team for the final...which I will now get too!!!!

The stadium was so packed and which had our adrenaline running...we were ready. I had the job again of leading Team USA with first leg. I patiently waited as the starter announced for us to get in the blocks...it was Time, Time to dream, Time to start...uhhh does that line sound familiar. Your right the opening line to the Home Depot Commercial. Interesting how things work out...I didn't know that I would be first leg when I shot the commercial. Our competitiors included the teams from Russia, Jamaica and Great Britain. I heard the gun and knew that I had to keep my team in position. I held my leg down and stayed in good position....I was able to hand off before some of the other girls who had made it to the 400 meter final. I was able to hand the baton to Allyson. She ran a great leg passing the Jamaican and handed off to Monique. Monique held the lead but was passed by the Russian in the last 70 meters and she still stayed strong and handed off to Sanya. There was no giving up between Sanya and the Russian. We crossed the line first in the fastest time in 15 years. We did it.

It was a wonderful feeling and we immediately embraced and thanked the Lord. I could not have asked for better teammates. They are all great and talented girls. I am happy to have made history wih them and look forward to more relays together.

513 Gets a Medal......Beijing Baby

Well everyone,

It was yet another weird night in track and field. We didn't get the sticks around the track in the USA 4x1's but we did get some medals in other events. The most important medal of the night was from our hometown boy DAVID PAYNE!!!! I saw him earlier in the day and told him to stay focus and be calm. I knew his day would come and things worked out for the best. I am so proud of him and happy that this 2008 Olympics was a success.

Let's give it up for none other than D Payne or better yet straight off the plane Dave! HAHA. Thanks to both the Cincinnati and UC community.....for all your support.

In terms of the relay, I will be stepping on the track and running first leg! The races so far on the sprint side have been amazing and unpredictable. You think you already have an idea of who will win, but things end up working out totally different. I have seen World Records, amazing finishes and some disappointments! This 2008 Olympic Games has allowed me to further open my eyes to how hard it takes for one to excel. We athletes sacrifice a lot, put in hard training and our experiences can range from ups/downs. I am thankful for my gift that I have of running and will always cherish it and the memories. Well back to the fact that my Games experience isn't over. 4x400 relay is what ends it all for track and field.

As of today I do not know the order or details about who will run, but I will post once I know more information. The weather has been nice here with sunny skies and warm temperatures. Today is one of the weird days in which it is RAINING, and no not just a little but a lot. I woke up this morning and knew hat I had to head to breakfast in the rain. I put on my layers of rain gear and made the trip over to our dining hall. I made it and didn't get that wet. So let me tell you all more about the dining hall. It is a large building that can hold about 1000 individuals. At certain times during the day it is so crowded, I have definitely had the chance to encounter so many different countries that I didn't realize existed. I have also been doing a good job of "pin trading" and what that includes is taking your countries Olympic designed pins and trading with other countries. I have had so much fun doing this and the Chinese love to try and trade something else for a pin. It could be a small stuff animal, small key chain or even a panda pin. I traded with countries such as Germany, Jamaica, India, and China.

We now have one more addition to this trip, Uncle Scott arrived a couple of days before my first round of the 400 meters. I am so happy that he was able to make the long trip and hope he is enjoying himself. We have done a couple of interesting things such as, visiting the Great Wall and taking him to the Silk Market. The Great Wall was an amazing experience, it is so long. You could not walk the entire thing in one day it would take one walking 20-30 miles a day for maybe 4 months. Whew myself, Chris and Uncle Scott (Chris's uncle) walked a little portion of the wall. Some spots were very steep and you had to hold onto the railing or you would fall. At one point we had to let Chris do the hard work and climb to get us some good pictures. Well I guess I can't leave out what happened prior to actually giving our ticket to the attendent. I am not a big fan of heights, I usually do fine on roller coasters because I know what to expect. This was a shocker for me, I didn't know that we had to ride cable cars to get to the other side of the wall. I got inside the cable car and we headed up into the sky! I immediately broke into a huge sweat and sort of had a panic attack. The cable car was just a little round thing attached to a cable that went over the mountains. It went high into the sky with nothing below us and I immedialtely thought "Oh no we are going to tumble to the rocks" Chris came to my rescue, I closed my eyes and started to fan myself.
When we made it to the other side I was so relieved. I told myself that I wouldn't be riding it back.....but I guess I changed my mind once I found out that it took an hour to walk back.

Talk to you all soon

I gave it my all......the 2nd Round (Women's 400)

Ni hao (Hello in Chinese)

I know so many of you have emailed me over the past days and stated how happy you are that track and field has started! Thanks again for all your emails and by the way I hope that you were able to catch a glimpse of Mike Phelps take home so many gold medals. Man, I don’t even know the guy but I am now his number one fan. How does he do it? He is an amazing little fish or big fish I should say! Even though I have not gone to any of the other venues I have enjoyed reading our little SPOTLIGHT NEWSLETTER that comes out each day. It alerts all the athletes to how everyone is doing. Great huh, the USOC (United States Olympic Committee) continues to do a great job taking care of the athletes.

The second round was scheduled to go off at 9:00pm so I decided to take a small nap earlier in the day. I would stick with the same routine and warm-up and get to the track ready to go. I felt really good and happy that I had got some of the track jitters out the way in the earlier round. All 3 Americans had advanced to the next round and I was thankful for that. We all were in different heats so now the goal was to place top two and make it to the final. This round would be a harsh round in which everyone would push their body to the limit. I was in lane 7 and needed to have a race like at the Trials, of course not with the weird finish, but a strong race. In these big meets you never know what to expect with lane draws except maybe in the final. So prior to going out to the stadium, Chris and I had to converse through a fence. Yes, long story but here it goes. Prior to the Olympic Games there is a coaching staff that is chosen for both the men and the women teams. As a sprinter I have a coach who represents the 400 meter group and we report to them at all times. Since all the athletes come from different places and backgrounds, we have our own personal coaches also. So imagine if every athletes coach could be on the warm up field during the Games, it could be a mad house..haha. Well anyway Chris did not have a credential to be on the warm-up track but we found a nice little spot by this fence that was slightly bent outside the warm-up track. This is how he watched me warm-up and how he gave me a good luck kiss and hug. Yes it was weird but we made it work.

I really wanted to do well this round, as the gun went off I pushed out of my blocks and ran the first curve. I headed into the 250 mark and felt as if I didn’t have the turnover that I usually would have at these point. What could be happening, I stayed calm and gave my all and still covered no ground. I saw my Olympic dream slipping away but nothing was coming from these legs. I crossed the line in 5th and was disappointed but decided to support my teammates and watched the other heats. Only one of the three fellow Americans made it into the final. I was happy for her that we had an American representation in the final and as I stepped off the track I thanked God for my blessings and held my head high.

Yes I didn’t make the final, but it wasn’t quite the end for me, because I still had a chance in the RELAY!! How many people have that opportunity? I was still an Olympian and nothing could change that. I am staying focused and getting myself ready for he 22nd and 23rd. Wish me luck.

My 1st Round in the Olympic Games (Women’s 400, lane 7)

Hey everyone,

I am so happy that I have been able to share my experiences with you all from the 2008 Olympic Games. You all are definitely great supporters and I appreciate all your prayers and best wishes. You all have helped tremendously in allowing me to stay focused and calm. Let’s start out with the first round of the women’s 400 meters which was in the morning session on the 16th at 12:30pm. I was so anxious to run and ready to get into the track stadium known as the Bird’s Nest, I didn’t know what to expect! I had already watched some events on T.V. and knew that the crowd would be there, I just didn’t realize how MANY PEOPLE WERE ACTUALLY IN THE STANDS!!! China was present in strong numbers and it was a sight to see when an American Flag flowed in a fans hand.

I had been working out a small kink in my right upper hip and quad, but was confident that I would be alright. Nothing big just a little sore spot. You know your body is never perfect, but we learn to deal with it and keep pushing forth. All of my practices had been going good and both Chris and I were confident with how the whole year had gone. The goal in the first round was to place top two in my heat so as to advance to the 2nd round. I talked with Jim the day before and he just assured me of what I needed to do. Wow my first Olympics…how would I do? I continued to say my prayers each night by asking the Lord to stay by my side, protect me, strengthen me and to allow me to do his will.

I was nervous I will admit, not doubting myself though but butterfly nervous like this is the OLYMPICS, Mary!!! I had come such a long way and I knew that my competitors were all thinking the same thing..going after a win. We would all want it, but whose day would it be? I finished 2nd in the heat and advance to the next day! I was relived but felt a little sluggish on the track. I quickly got a rub down from our trainers and took my 10 minute ice bath. One out of the way……more to come

BEIJING .....the next level .......where the real athletes compete!!!!

Hey everyone,

FYI- My Home Depot Commercial aired on Aug 8th and has been on several times. Check out NBC throughout the day and you will see it or here is a link from my buddy Chris Smith who put it on youtube. He taped it with his cell phone. But hopefully you can see the real thing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5Wupk7bB2g

Well sorry it took so long to write an update email to you all, but things here are great! I made it to China safe and sound with no problems. I have so many stories to tell that I don't know where to begin. Let's start with after the Olympic Trials....... I was so excited and proud of myself that I had one of the biggest smiles on my face for the remaining time that I was in Cincy before heading to Europe/China. Everyone in Cincy has been great supporters and fans. The coverage has been great for both myself and fellow Bearcat David Payne. I have enjoyed talking with all the reporters and being on all the news shows. I am happy for the exposure because it helps a lot of people understand more about my event, running and of course the Olympics.

Now I guess we can move on to the Big Trip.....My Road to Beijing. I left Cincinnati on August 2nd, 2008 and headed to San Jose, California to do processing. It was an amazing time in which I was able to go though different stages of processing, such as ring sizing, uniform collection, collection of sponsor gifts, shoes, clothing, getting Olympic information, and of course getting fitted for my opening/closing ceremony outfits. The whole process was overwhelming....I had a cart full of great things, and everyone from the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) was so helpful and nice. They definitely made my day. For this year Olympic Games the sponsor was NIKE and Ralph Lauren POLO. I got so much stuff that I was able to send a suitcase of stuff back home. While processing I found out that we get Olympic rings!!!! Wow my own ring. I was able to pick what I wanted it to say on the side (MARY 400M) and it will be white gold and have Olympic Rings on it. I can't wait to get it. After we went through processing a group of us (other track athletes) were able to eat dinner. We were expected to then after dinner get all our belongings together to get packed up for the airport. We would take off bright and early the next day to a long flight which would last 12 hours.

I can recall not being able to sleep that night, anticipating the next day. I felt like it was Christmas Eve and the next morning would be filled wth fun surprises. I headed to the airport the next morning and as Olympic athletes we went and checked into a special section. Check-in went smooth and the plane was a big one. I was happy with my seat choice which was a window seat with no one in the middle but another track athlete in the aisle seat. I was able to stretch out a little and get some sleep during the flight. At last after several hours and meals I landed in Beijing, China. As the plane landed I looked out to see gray skies and as I headed off the plane it was so very hot and humid. I couldn't believe....I'm Here, I'm here in China.

The transition to the Olympic Village was great, the Chinese volunteers for the games are very nice, full of smiles and very welcoming. After checking into the village the place was AMAZING. The village consisted of many dorm like buildings called suites and the athletes stay six to a room. The rooms are very cozy and I was able to recieve a gift from the Chinese children on my bed to welcome me. They painted pictures for each of the athletes. The days go by fast here espicially if you keep busy. I usually attend practice in the mornings, get treatment such as ice and stretch. then I go for lunch and then check email or go into our international zone on site, then it's time for dinner and we may have a team meeting here or there and it's bed time. Wow sounds like the life right...haha. But I am enjoying myself, and staying calm as I prepare for my first day on Saturday.

Opening ceremonies was such a great thing to be able to participate in. I was able to see so many athletes from other countries, and even from the U.S. Kobe, Carmello, Lisa Leslie, LaBron, Jenny Finch (baseball pitcher), the Venus sisters, volleyball and women's basketball, the Lopez family in Judo and even Dara Torres and Michael Phelps. I also meet President Bush, his father and Laura Bush. They all were very nice and greatful to have so many athletes to represent the USA. Walking in the cermony was long and hard because with what we had on and the weather, it was a sweaty four hours! But it was worth it and I would do it again. I was able to get some TV time by staying near Men's basketball, since I knew the TV would catch them and give them a lot of attention. If you were watching opening cermonies Men's basketball was the last team to walk into the stadium and I was talking with one of the players when the tv showed me. I was able to state to him that this crowd would be the same once track and field started. We were both amazed and he said that it was much more fans than they would have in their basketball arena. So I had a great time and was proud of Team USA for looking good and being the biggest team present. GO USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris was able to arrive a day after me and we were able to celebrate our 2nd anniversary in China. Well not really because he was actually on a plane on our date. But it is nice to have him here for support. He is also amazed with the whole experience. He is having a great time and for him the opening ceremonies was BRILLIANT. Chris wasn't able to be at the stadium but he did watch it on a big screen tv where he is staying. And boy let me tell you the coverage was great. He saw many things that you all in the US did not get a chance to see. His greatest event was the lighting of the torch and seeing the man run around the entire stadium. Chris has also been able to visit in the Olympic Village and eat a couple of meals with me. We have not been to any of the other athletic venues, but we have seen a lot on TV. We went to the Silk Market on my day off and let me just tell you there are some aggressive sellers!!!! Imagine yourself in a crowded shop with tons of people, and tons of little booths in which you go down an aisle and each floor is specific. You hear COME COME buy from me pretty girl or you handsome guy, ohhhh don't you want a tie, a purse, a shirt or some jeans. They grab your hand and usher you into their little booth and don't think you can escape. You have to bargain talk their prices!!!!! They will try to get more money from you at first then you hear the constant...ohhhh I don't make any money, youuuuu sooooo tough, or give me 300rmb and you immediately say no and only offer to give 100rmb which is like $20 USD. So that was our highlight of this trip so far. We also went to Nike hospitality in which I got some good stuff and we were able to eat and enjoy mingling. Now I am not going anywhere else until competition is over.......I am resting these legs and by he way it is raining today......

If you haven't check out the website feel free to...I actually can't put any pictures up from opening ceremony until 3 days after the Olympics so sorry you will have to wait until then. But I do know my friend Amy is a wiz on the computer and she was able to find some shots of me. We should have a listing up and schedule of when I run on the website. I will be also blogging but will try to keep it short on there. I hope everyone is well and please continue to keep me in your prayers. Talk to you all soon!!

Mary Wineberg

BEIJING HERE I COME.....

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SH4I8hTlFjI/AAAAAAAAACE/TNBhGMkQSWI/s200/55.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5223622453622019634" />
Hi everyone,

I AM SO HAPPY AND RELIEVED THAT THE TRIALS ARE OVER, I MADE IT, I DID IT...WHAT MORE CAN I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Things were so hectic after the Olympic Trials(throwing my mom an early surprise birthday party to leaving for Europe 2 days later), so sorry for just getting around to writing about the wonderful experience I had. I knew that I couldn't take too long because so many people were asking me how the race went, what happened and how was my stay in Eugene. So here it goes, I hope that I answer all your questions and make you feel as if you were there with me.

Eugene, Oregon is actually a very nice quiet place in which people seem to love not only football but track and field. Just to throw this out there for those who may not know Steve Prefontaine. He was a great distance runner who went to the University of Oregon. He was AMAZING, he set so many records, went to the Olympics and unfortunately did not get to advance his career due to dying in a car accident. His name still lives on in Oregon, they have a track meet named after him, and you will see many people wear PRE shirts or just sit and reminisce about him. Hey google him and read his story!

I arrived in Eugene five days before the first round of the 400 meters. I was able to have my husband attend with me, his parents and my coach Jim Schnur. My inlaws and coach were able to stay with a very nice family in Eugene. The Duncan's were great! They opened up their home and were enjoyable host. They even attended the final round of the 400 to watch me run. The Duncan's had lived in Eugene for 17 years but actually had ties from Spingfield, Ohio where they both grew up. My inlaws and husband are from there..so we kept thinking man small world...it's interesting who you can meet. So being there early in Eugene of course allowed me to adjust to the time difference of three hours and the weather/allergies. Chris and I got in our last work out while in Eugene, and from there we knew I was ready to go. Nnow all that was left was making it through the rounds and letting the Final take care of it self. I really didn't sight see too much but I stayed off my feet and just relaxed. Chris did go see the mountains and sea lions which were pretty neat, but he said they smelled strong! I will admit prior to competiting...we found out while my coach was with me that he did not get renewed the following year as head womens coach for UC. We were all shocked, upset and confused! I couldn't belive that this happened and happened during the biggest event of my life..the TRIALS. We all decided to not think about it and move forth with our plan...nothing was going to ruin my chance. It is unfortunate that he will no longer be coaching at UC...he is a great coach, very knowledgeable and produced 11 NCAA All Americans for UC. He will still be coaching me in part with my husband, but let's keep him in our prayers!!!

On the day of the Final I will admit I was nervous but confident...I had a plan but sometimes things don't go as plan and you still have to wing it so here it is.....
how the race went:

The race was a blur to me right after....I definitely had so many emotions especially during the last 50 meters. But also after watching it several times I was able to dissect the race and see my mistakes and what I did right. Going into the final I was very confident with myself, I knew that I had worked hard all year and I would make this team no matter how I came across the line. I wanted to complete my goal and I had the look of war on my face for the final...some thought it was nervousness.

As the announcer said set my goal was to get out hard and just run with my heart. My coach had expressed to me to get out the first 80 meters, relax the back stretch but stay in position and then bring it home strong like in Indy last year. Unfortunately it wasn't that easy, as I got into the blocks I said to myself...let's go after her...you can run with her....let's do it. (referring to Sanya...she is a great teammate and competitor) I got out hard the first 100 meters and then didn't get relaxed the second hundred...I increased my turnover causing me to come through the 200 at 23.2 (TOO FAST FOR ME....I USUALLY DO 23.8 or 24 flat) even the announcer stated before that myself and Trotter were slower in the first 200 than our competitors)

I actually made up ground and I was pumped, maybe a little too much....and was in the lead for a little until she turned on her legs and at that point on the third hundred...I still thought I could go with her and still tried to turn over.....as we headed into the last 100 meters...I thought my body felt OK and would be able to finish strong....but the effects of sprinting too fast in the 2nd hundred caught up with me.....ugggggggghhhhhhhhh

That horrible feeling came on quick. The feeling as if a monkey jumped out on my back and was pulling and pulling me into the track. Sort of like your sinking and there is no way out!!! I started to strain and I saw my life flash before me..but quickly. I just needed to hoooooooooooollllllllllllld on....

Sanya took off strong down the home stretch, and as I lifted and struggled down the homestretch I was able to hold on to 2nd place and fall across the line.WHEWWWW!!!!!!! I made it....but gave a lot of people the scare of their life, including myself. Once laid out on the track, I looked back at the screen to see the places because I wasn't exactly sure I had made it. Once I saw it I was so relieved that I didn't even remember how the race had went or that I had fallen...I got up to enjoy my news...I was so happy and thankful!!! The Lord blessed me and I was know an Olympian. Well what I did right in the race was go after it!!! I wasn't afraid and sometimes you have to do that. I didn't run the best race of my life...certainly not but it's amazing how I still made the team and got second at that. My worst race.....think if I would have ran a more relaxed first part my time I know would have possibly been a PR!!! But I will now shoot after that for the Olympic Games.

Thank you all for your continual support and I hope that I have made you all proud. I can remember in 2004 when I was looking for sponsporship....at that time I didn't have anything. I was paying my own way to meets in California and trying to stay focused at the same time. I can remember talking with my high school coach Karl Kauffman, and he referred me to a family that decided to help me out. I tried using my resources in Cincinnati and sent out DVD's expressing to companies my need for sponsporship and pleading my case. This family decided to help me out...I was very greatful and to this day I still think back to Connolly Family in Cincinnati. Thanks again

2008 Olympic Trials- 400 meters

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SGvQSUInQZI/AAAAAAAAAB8/hQ4d1JqIWZk/s200/Wineburg_MarySF_USOlyT08.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218493606299910546" />

Hey everyone,

Things have been going great here in Eugene! The weather has been decent, some days were very hot and besides the smog from the fires in California, things are good. So I know many of you want to know exactly how I am feeling right now leading into the finals. The first thing that comes to mind is a feeling of being BLESSED, I am so thankful for this opportunity! Looking back to 2004, I am definitely a stronger person and athlete. I have taken a journey through the years that has allowed me to get better and better each year. I am ready for this Olympic Trials, I am prepared and may the Lord continue to bless me.

The rounds each day were not too tiring, the goal was to run and place first in my heats. I was happy that I was able to do this and also have two days off after the 2nd round. I have been resting these last two days. Really getting in some good stretching, warm-ups and ice baths, because it is the end of the line. There is nothing that I can do in 2 days that will change how I will run in the final. I have practiced and worked hard all year and what will be will be. I want all my hard work to pay off and that it the plan. Run hard and run strong!!!!!

I am confident after the last two rounds, my body is ready to run and the ultimate goal is to make the team. Thanks to everyone who has been watching the trials or staying updated on line. You guys are the greatest fans in the world and don't think that I don't appreciate you all. It means so much to have someone just routing you on! So please keep the prayers going and let's make this team!

See you all soon,

Mary---
Determination, Desire, and Hope....these things will be in my mind as I get into the blocks on Thursday!!!!)

See you all soon.

Living the Life of a Celebrity....

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SGCDk2PeklI/AAAAAAAAABs/0Ve13p3sT3s/s200/315401801_NKmGL-S%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5215313037553996370" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SGCDk7a-UII/AAAAAAAAAB0/oJfMiEbqP4I/s200/315401895_6tXxD-Ti%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5215313038944391298" />
Hello everyone,
O.K. I know the title may be a little too much but I had a great experience shooting a commercial in L.A. last week, so I figured that I would share it with all my supporters and fans. It was a great experience in which I learned a lot about how commercials are made. Not only did the company Backyard Productions take very good care of me, but I was able to meet one of their employees who use to have family that lived near Colerain Township. Man small world, we were both able to talk about the great spots in Cincy and how Colerain is. Being that I am new to the area I have found everyone that I have meet to be nice and the neighborhood is quiet.

So back to the commercial, I was picked up by a town car and taken to the CVG airport, I was able to fly first class and landed in LA at 10pm on a Monday night. The commercial was shot on the next day and I found out that I would be coming out of the blocks with a stadium full of people, who at the time weren't there. They would be digitally put in during editing. I was able to meet up with other athletes who would be doing other shots. Man t....hey had it all, make-up/hair, wardrobe, and a trailer for us to relax in. The director for this commercial would be the same guy who directed Invincible! That movie was great and after meeting him he was a friendly person.

So when my time actually came around I had five other girls (actors)in my shot. They built a track of about 20 meters in the soccer stadium where Beckham plays...and man I heard that he had walked by while I was in my trailer...I missed him! They made the stadium look really neat and we shot at night. It was a fun time, I did everything I normally did when getting in and coming out of the blocks. Sorry an' give you too many details, so be on the look out. The commercial airs in August of course for the Olympics and will be a Home Depot Commercial, so look for it. I will be "let's get started" theme. To top of the trip I ended the day with eating dinner and ending back to my hotel. I had to get up early the next day to head back to Cincy to get training in. Boy was I surprised when I woke up the next day to go to the airport, my taxi had arrived early, and the hotel receptionist called to alert me. I walked down with my bags and once I realized that my taxi was no taxi but a stretch limo..I couldn't believe it. So that was my quick trip to LA...the city of luxury and celebrities.

Check out the picture taken by one of the guy working on the shoot!
Copyright 2008 Kevin Althans

2008 Reebok GP & 2008 Prefontaine Meet

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SFBkmUs2d8I/AAAAAAAAABk/ocWuqZbdlIM/s200/Wineberg_Mary4_Pre08.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5210775378422298562" />
Greetings,

This year has definitely been a true blessing for me. Not only am I healthy now but my running has been going very well. I am quite satisfied with the Lord's plan for me and all the blessings he has given to this day. I have found that many times individuals will start to doubt themselves or give up. For myself I have found neither of those as options. As I am heading into the Olympic Trials there is no doubting. I must know and state always that I am one of the best athletes in the world and I will run like one. In terms of giving up...there have been days when the work outs have been hard, but I still push forward. THERE IS NO STOPPING!!!!!

I have a huge support staff that I must THANK!!!!....1)My mom (who is unable to travel with me to many of the meets...finds pleasure watching and screaming at the T.V....Go Mary Go!!!!), 2) My husband and his entire family......I guess there like my number 1 fans also...they too scream at the TV..only if I could hear 3) My family...who is all over in the US and supports each time I am T.V. and enjoys seeing one of their family members on the screen....I guess the list could go on and on and on. Lots of Friends, my Church, the Spots, the Depot, UC, my sands, and of course Boxer!!!!!

After having a good positive year in 2007, I only wished for an even better one in 2008. I have started the year running ahead of my times from last year. I am satisfied with how my meets have been going. Yes you do want to win, but you also want to set yourself up for the bigger picture (Olympic Games). My last two meets were in New York and Eugene.

Here are the details:
New York- unfortunately there were several time delays due to the severe thunderstorms. The race ended up going off at 10:05pm. I had warmed up, sat and then had to re-warm up. Mentally I had to re do everything all over again. This was actually good practice for any future meets. As athletes no meet is set in stone...weather can always delay or change things...so you have to be ready. My legs prior to these meet felt very flat and tired. I tried not to think about it, and just remember that I wanted to race well. I went out in this race and actually could have had a better first half and second half. I ended up third but again the race did not feel fast or feel as if it was my entire best. Next week would bring something better.

Prefontaine- I came into the race with more preparation. I wanted to execute my race well. I was in lane 6 and the weather was perfect...a little windy. I discussed the race plan with my coach and my husband and knew that if I did what they asked things would work out. I placed 2nd in the meet and closed well....and saw the race as being almost perfect. There are always things that can be worked on and in my case it was two small things. Working the 3rd hundred a little better and not leaning too forward as I am closing. My time of 50.32 is close to my lifetime PR so in the trials I should get even better. I am very excited and will continue to work hard in practice. This meet is always enjoyable and the crowd in Eugene was awesome. Track Town here I come.....
See ya!!!!

The many questions of T.V. I have found that since introducing myself to different people, I have opened their eyes up to the world of track and field. They enjoy watching and of course cheering me on. Thanks!!!!

But I guess the only problem that many of my fans have found and have mentioned to me is the horrible coverage of athletes. "How hard can these be...we wonder?" I think that in each event more athletes should be introduced or even shown briefly getting into the blocks or race position. I have found that the European coverage is perfect...the camera gets all the athletes and their introductions. So to all who always ask me after my races..."Why didn't they show you or why didn't they mention your gold medal in Osaka for the 4X4?".....I don't know....let's just hope for better coverage.

Track on t.V. is always a special privilege when it does come on. I am thankful for all opportunities!!!
I thank you all for the support and best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://marywineberg6.blogspot.com/2008/06/many-questions-of-tv-coverage.html' title='The many questions of T.V. You can no longer question, "Is my training good enough, or have I trained my best?" You now have to realize and trust in your coaching staff, training partners and of COURSE yourself, and know that you are prepared!!!

I am both very excited and nervous as I head into my 2nd Olympic Trials. I am happy that I do have a big supportive group of family and friends. My mom is always telling me to go after the win and beat somebody! I actually in each race go after that goal. I want to win races and I want to give a good time. Let's talk about this past meet and ohhhhh it was so close, I actually almost had a win!

Heading into the Adidas Meet, I had a good two weeks of training prior.....I was ready.....all I could do was give my best. California at this time of the year is usually warm but this particular weekend there was a HEAT WAVE!!!! Man it was hot, so hot that I warmed up inside before my race and came out 20 minutes before to get in some fast striders. The race was full of great competitors and I wanted the win but was proud to come in second place.

If you didn't get a chance to see it here is a recap. I was in lane 3 and got out to a good start.....I started to pick it up at the 200 meter mark and realized that I still felt pretty strong and could give more. I dug deep and started to turn over once from the 150 mark as I headed into the last 100. With 100 meters to go I was in 3rd place with 2 Jamaicans on my outside. ....and I made up ground. Myself and the Jamaican we were side by side, she just slightly in the lead, we inched for the finish line and I started to feel as if I had it but she crossed the line in 50.38 and I crossed in 50.41.......so close. It was a great race and I was happy with the time of where I wanted to be right now.

I will be headed to New York next weekend....again I will continue to go after my goal!

Osaka...HERE I COME AGAIN!!

My next big meet was going to a place that was all so familiar to me, a place that I called home for three weeks. I wasn't excited about the 12 hour flight, but I was excited to go back to the place where I had won gold. The Osaka GP was an event that I attended last year and there I had won the women's 400 in 51.22. As the defending champion, it was now up to me to come back and place with another win.

Prior to making the trip I had checked the weather, I wanted to pack and be prepared for anything. The weather called for rain and chilly conditions, but I didn't let that get me down. I left for Japan on Wednesday and arrived on Thursday, and of course since I am not a high roller or big baller you could say..I rode in coach class. But man I wish I could have flown business, it looked so cozy up there on the second deck of the jumbo plane. All I could do was get a quick glimpse of those who travel in style and comfort...hahah. I got comfortable in my seat and made sure that on the flight home I would request an exit row.

Heading into the meet before I left Ohio I got a sinus infection, so imagine how comfortable flying was....I was stuffed up and my ears felt like they were full. I was happy once we arrived in Japan....I couldn't wait to get off the plane and once again say OHIO (good morning)
My Japanese was very limited but it was nice to arrive at the hotel and have some who spoke English. The Japanese people are always friendly and when they say hello they often bow. As an American I never know if I should bow also, but I enjoy the experience of being somewhere different.

Our hotel was very nice that we stayed in, but I stayed away from trying any different foods. Due to already have sinus problems and not risking getting sick..I didn't try any sushi or traditional Japanese dishes. Man you never want to get sick when traveling...not a good thing. I wasn't sure of the competition in the meet, many athletes had not made it to the meet for various reasons or were heading to another big meet in DOHA. My plan was to go out and have fun in the race, execute and come home with a win.

On the day of the race it rain all day , and was so gloomy and chilly. I always have wondered why in a meet when it is pouring raining why they make you stand in the rain as other athletes are still undressing. The rain didn't bother me too much...good thing my hair was able to wave up and be pulled back into a ponytail. (HAHA) No but really the meet was enjoyable and there was a nice crowd there to support even with the rainy weather. Osaka, thanks for having me!!!!! I ended up winning the race in 51.5, wasn't excited about the time, but again accepted the win.

My goal is to gear up for the next meet, and hope for better weather. By the way the countdown to the Olympic Trials is now less than 50 days away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See you all and thanks again for staying updated!!!!

2008 Penn Relays

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SCvXdaqqG2I/AAAAAAAAABU/gUaG-9_lvtY/s200/2008+Penn+relays.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5200487095103789922" />
USA vs The World has always been an exiting meet to attend and participate in. I can remember in college counting down the days until we would come to the PENN RELAYS. Chris's first year at the Penn Relays resulted in a 3rd place finish in the decathlon while he was a sophomore. I actually participated in the relays in college when we attended.

The thing I enjoy the most is the crowd, the atmosphere and of course the loud Jamaicans. You enter the stadium on Saturday and all you see is green, yellow and black. Jamaican flags, shoes, clothing and of course you smell Jamaican patties/Jerk chicken in the air. OOHHHH what good food...if you haven't tried it make sure you get some authentic food, no wanna be's. It's definitely not the same. You see me I am lucky to have my mother stew up some oxtails/red beans and rice, and my other relatives they make the rum cake. Before the meet my family will state how well the JA's will do. But I have to let them know that USA will always come out on top, the wonderful red, white and blue.

This was the case in many of the relays for the Americans, even though Jamaica did come out on top in some events. Whenever we prepare for USA relay meets, you really never know what team you will be made up of or even what leg you will run until the day before. For me training was heading in the right direction and I was ready to be on any team and run my best. I was on the team made up of Wineberg, Felix, Hastings, and Richards.(same girls from World's prelim and Final...missing Trotter) We ended up running a Penn Relays record and winning in first place over the rest of the field. It was such a good feeling to be able to pass the baton on and really see us make up some ground.

After winning we were able to get up on the podium and accept our Penn relay watches. I now have three watches...hey I will always know the time. This meet was also exciting because some of the UC athletes and Chris were able to stay behind and watch me run. It always helps to have support!!! My mom, family and friends make sure they catch me on TV...and hopefully you fans watch and are screaming at the TV for me to RUN, RUN MARY, AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!

Sea Ray Relays- April 11-12, 2008

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/SAIyJdPLLMI/AAAAAAAAABM/jx6zCNpKyKc/s200/Mary_Wineberg_4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5188764858732719298" />

This week I headed to Knoxville, TN with UC to attend the Sea Ray Relays. I knew here the competition would be better and I would have a chance to possibly improve my 200 and 400 meter time. I always enjoy attending this meet because it is not as stressful as some of my bigger meets. I am able to go into the meet with a relaxed mind and no pressure. The game plan was to attack the race and see what results. Here at this meet, I also get a chance to compete against some other professional athletes that may train in the University of Tennessee area.

Once we arrived, the weather was nice and warm. They did predict rain for the next day and man the winds were strong! On Friday I would run the 400 and on Saturday the 200. As I warmed up for the 400 meters, I was almost blown away by the strong winds(up to 8 meters per second). I guess I picked the wrong day o run the 400...haha.
Once we lined up in our blocks and the announcer went through the field. He saw this race as being the race of the day...I had won the 400 in 2006, 2007 got second, what would happen in 2008?

I ended up winning the race in 52.23, which was no faster than last week at all but due to the windy conditions that was a good time. Man if I didn't have the wind I would have been at least 1.5 seconds faster......
Coach Jim and Chris were satisfied so I decided that it was a good day of training. I cooled down and then went on to cheer for UC the rest of the day.

I had the 200 the next day and I as excited to try again and get a PR out of the weekend. So again the competition was good for the 200 meters and I ended up second overall running in a personal best in a time of 23.05. So the meet turned out to be a success and to top it off i won a special award from the meet. Just as we were leaving the announcers, called my name at the end of the meet to state that i had won the Athlete of the Meet award. It was definitely an honour and I was thankful. I will let you all know what the award looks like once I get it.

Again thanks for stopping by and remember to live life to the fullest!!!!
By the way if you guys are curious the picture in this blog is from a photo shoot that I did with Cincinnati Magazine for the April issue. The Oliver Nikoloff turned out to be very successful both for myself and the UC Team. At this time in April we usually still see some cold weather and sometimes a little snow. But that wasn't the case at all this time, April 5th was about 58 degrees and sunny.

I was using this meet as a warm up meet to see where I was in terms of my training. After not going to the Texas Relays, like I always do every year, I figured running in my own back yard wouldn't be so bad. I didn't quite have the competition like I needed too, so it was up to me running against the clock. In my heat of the 400 meters I had 2 UC top 400 meter runners. As the gun went off I quickly made up all staggers and was in the lead of my own race. I came to the home stretch with the other girls 4 seconds behind me, all I could hear was Coach Brandon Hon from UC screaming Go Mary...through the line!

I crossed the line alone in 51.22. The other 2 UC girls cam across in PB of 55's. They did a great job and I was proud of them. One girl was slightly off my freshman record in the 400 meters. Yes you may be wondering well where does this put you? I was now ahead of the game,last year at my first meet I opened up with a 51.88 Since it is still early in the season it was a world leading time. I haven't checked lately to see if it is still holding, but my goal of course is to keep lowing my time, each week.

Thanks to you all who attended the meet! Hope you had a great time. If your interested we will be hosting a very big event this weekend called the All-Ohio. We will have all the track teams in Ohio come and compete for the title. It should be huge and we are also having a reunion for current and past BEARCATS!! Hope to see you there!!!!!!

OUTDOOR SEASON......ready, set, GO!!!

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure if you all stayed updated with Team USA this weekend in Valencia, Spain for the 2008 Indoor World Championships. I know many of you are wondering why I didn't attend due to my 3rd place finish at the National Meet. I was eligible to run the relay, but my coach and I already had a plan in place for indoors. Regardless of my place at the National Meet, I would not be attending. Team USA did a great job, I was so excited and nervous for them when I watched the 400 and the 4x400. Fellow 400 meter runners did well excelling to the final and having PB's. Congrats to them!!!!!!!!!

Well today was a very hard day at practice, so hard that I passed out on the pole vault pit afterward. I am happy to be able to train again with no pain! Yes a lot of people didn't know that I battled some injures prior to the meets I participated in this indoor season. The good news that I have is that I am healthy again, and that is nice to know! I was diagnosed with a cyst on my ovary over a month ago and now as of 4 days ago has shrunken and will not be a factor for now. When I heard the news I thanked the Lord!

So back to passing out..hahaha
Don't worry it wasn't a pass out that would require the Emergency Squad. Passing out is track talk for...working out so hard that you feel the intense burn of the workout. Your legs are full of lactic acid, you can barely crawl or walk and the only thing you are thinking about is....HOW TO GET RID OF THE PAIN.

The killer workout was 300 meters...which I usually love. I can't wait to get outside on an outdoor track. We had a lot of snow this past weekend, and it is slowly melting away. After this workout or any hard workout the best thing that I usually do is take a cold cold ice bath. THIS WORKS OUT THE PAIN.
Hope all is well in your life, please be safe and remember working out is good for your health. Try walking or exercising,it can be rewarding!!!!!!!!

Indoor Nationals (The Good, Bad and Ugly)

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/R8DiPHj34mI/AAAAAAAAAA8/jqUHkiHjAkI/s200/littlt.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5170381121576755810" />
Well some of you might be a little confused by the title to this blog. But it's how I felt after day 1 of running the 400 meters. Please let me go into more details....
I had purchased my ticket to attend the meet in Boston to leave on Friday morning at 7:40am arriving in Boston at 10:50am. Mother Nature was not very nice, she brought tons of snow, ice and horrible conditions. After getting up at 4am on Friday morning to head to the airport, I was hoping for a miracle.

Soon as I arrived at the ticket counter I saw CANCELED. The flight was rescheduled to go at 10:50am, seeing this made me think I had hope. This small change was just a taste of what my day would consist of! To make the story short after trying to check in at 10:00am, I once again saw CANCELLED. The whole day I was rescheduled to five other flights...after begging and pleading to the Delta customer service. But here's the kicker, all the 5 flights were cancelled one after another. Finally the airline made an announcement that NO FLIGHTS TO BOSTON OR NEW YORK for the rest of the day, or even the next day. I explained to them that I had a meet to get to and please whatever they could do...please get me there. I was tired, mad, hungry and just wanted to get on a plane!

After being rejected several times and being told ma'am there is nothing we can do, but put you on standby with 50 other people. I did not know what to do...I questioned should I just go home? Should I try to find a flight the next day and risk missing the first round on Saturday? I contacted the meet and they were aware of the cancelled flights. They told me to try another counter or different person.

Luck finally came my way, I tried one more individual and he answered my prayer, by this time it was 4:30pm.....that's right I slept, ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in the airport that day. He was able to get me on a flight to Manchester, NH at 7:40 arriving at 10:30pm. As soon as I would arrive I would have to find transportation to be taken to Boston in the terrible ice and snow for an 1 hour and 15 min ride.

Well folks, that is what I did. The flight worked out and I caught a cab and finally arrived to Boson at midnight and had to race the next day. I was happy with my time in the 400, because I had a lot going on the day before. I was able to not let it defeat me and make it to the next round. Now after the race I will take an ice bath, get some rest and prepare for the final. Please keep me in your prayers. I hope to have good news for you tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a Relief.....

Hey everyone,

I guess I can now say, what a relief! Thanks for all your concerns and prayers. I am still in a little bit of pain at times and the swelling has gone down tremedously. I took some time off from training (which was hard) and did rehab, now I am back!

Let's talk about some other good news, you all know that I help out at UC with the track team. Well this weekend is the All-Ohio Championship. The meet helps to determine who is the best team in Ohio. The goal is to have UC take home this victory, so best of luck to both the men and women. I wish thme well and best marks.

The workouts were brutal ranging from the killer 300's to the speedy 30's, my knee survived but I was very cautious as to how I landed and turned with my leg. I honestly feel good, not 100 percent but close enough for where I want to be right now. Anyway, who ever feels 100 percent on race day? I do plan on attending Indoor Nationals in Boston next weekend so stay tuned and watch me on TV if you get a chance. Check out www.usatf.com. See you all soon and God Bless!

Staying Healthy

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-Au480Qm36Y/R6I3ey5uIVI/AAAAAAAAAA0/q5n8tMCS_eI/s200/4155057431.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161749125119484242" />
I am a huge advocate of doing all the necessary things to make sure that your body is HEALTHY. Even it means jumping into a cold ice bath or taking some time off once you feel an injury arise. But of course we athletes can be very stubborn and I have learned that listening is a good thing.

After competing last week, I was excited at what else the Indoor Season could bring. But unfortunately just like in the show Amazing Race, I would have to take a pit stop. My knee had been bothering me prior to the start of the Indiana meet. I figured that it was just a little sore and I could compete and be fine. I guess I was wrong on this one. The next day after competing for 2 days, my knee was swollen and I was in a lot of pain. The doctors ruled out a menicus tear, and diagnosed me with having slight tracking of the patella and some inflammation. All I know is that I didn't want to have to hear the word SURGERY!

I was both relieved and a little upset, because I now had to miss the 101 Millrose Games in New York. At this meet I would have been running an unusual distance of 600 yards. I was excited to attempt this but after hearing my bad news I looked at the bigger picture. Did I want to go and hurt myself more and be out for the season, or did I want to take some time rehabing. Sounds like option 2 is the better choice. There are no Olympic Games indoor, so my eyes are still on the prize!
Have a great weekend!

WOW.....getting ready for the Indoor Season

Well the month of January has finally arrived, meaning INDOOR MEETS!!! As an athlete you question yourself..am I ready? Did I prepare just as I did the year before? What if my first run isn't as good as I want? I try not to think too much as I prepare for my first meet. I try to go in with an open mind and no expectations. If I surprise myself then that is always a good sign and definitely makes my coach happy.

See for me that's my way of making it a little easy..going in there open minded...no expectations, (1) if it's disappointing or (2)if it's worthwhile, there is no pressure. No pressure means I can have fun and enjoy the warm-up meet. I started my training after taking a month off after the World Athletic Final. Durng my time off I enjoyed my family, friends and the opportunity to spend time in my own BED..hahaha. Training has had it's ups and downs, but overall it has been productive. I'm ready and feeling confident.
But boy do I still get those pre meet jitters no matter what size the meet is. During my time off I actually missed it, weird but if you are a true athlete you'll understand.
